KINGS OF THE COROMANDEL FISHING TOURNAMENT 2010

2010's date has been set for April 22nd-24th with a briefing on Wednesday evening, the 21st of April.

2009 was the best ever, with record catches, the winning kingi being caught by Tony Wong-Kam from Auckland.

The tournament is still primarily an event based on fishing skill, with prizes awarded for the biggest fish.,  however there are many additional lucky draw prizes to encourage people to return each night, catch up with old friends and enjoy the hospitality of our sponsor, Tui Breweries.  As in previous years, there will be a compulsory briefing on Wednesday evening to go over the rules and answer any questions.

Coromandel facilities:
Coromandel has grown into a booming little town, there are three pubs, several restaurants, three fishing supply stores and plenty of opportunity to shop. During the day the cafes and lunch bars are open to service the town. Fuel in town can be purchased via the BP Coromandel on the way into town, or Gasoline Alley Services (G.A.S) which is located to the left when you come into town.  The Coromandel wharf has a diesel pump (Caltex) at the end of the wharf.

Boat ramp facilities are scattered all over the Coromandel area, and up the Thames coast on the way to Coromandel.  For the boaties coming over from Auckland with their boats, there are a number of safe moorings in the Coromandel area - the most popular, are Mania Harbour, Te Kouma Harbour, Coromandel Harbour, and further North there are a number of islands to shelter behind with Elephant Cove being the furthest North.

Tournament Info:
We have simplified the ticket and registration process this year to avoid the bottleneck at the marquee before the briefing. The process will be as follows:
  1. Download the order form online and forward the completed and signed form to the address shown. Remember if you fished last year you have first rights to tickets until the end of February. You can also order by phoning Hugo on 021 975 157. Your tickets will then be mailed to you.

  2. Turn up to the compulsory briefing on 21st April. We will cover issues such as tournament rules, changes, regulations, fishing times, areas, prizes and prize giving times.
Please remember to bring your ticket I.D. to the tournament, to collect prizes,. Also please remember to have your tickets on you at all times during the tournament.
There will be prize giving each day after weigh in closes at 5pm on the Thursday and Friday - 4pm on the Saturday. There will be only one weigh station and that will be at the venue (Coromandel).

We expect the Tournament prize pool to exceed 2009.  There will be five sections: Kingfish, Snapper, Kahawia, John Dory and Trevally, with prizes for  land based and kayak fishermen targeting Snapper, Kahawai and TrevallyAlso, 2010 will see Ladies and Junior categories.

The 2010 "KINGS OF THE COROMANDEL" is going to be the Tournament not to miss, it is going to be the greatest fishing tournament in New Zealand and we hope you can all join us.
